India is experiencing a tremendous growth in livestock production including milk, meat and eggs. The main purpose of 1962 Mobile Veterinary Services is to provide year round access to meet the emergency and critical care demands of the livestock in the necessary quantity and quality. Timely and prompt delivery of the veterinary service to the site, for the right reason, to the right animal patient, giving the right veterinary medical care at the right time are some of the critical areas in emergency veterinary response system. Providing Emergency Veterinary Services is a complicated as it involves handling different species of animal patients, varied emergencies including medical, surgical, obstetrics and gynaecological conditions, identifying zoonotic and notifiable diseases, prompt and timely escalation of such reporting to the concerned government agencies and at the same time controlling the antibiotic use in food producing animals. Public Health forms an integral part of Emergency Veterinary Services as both the human and animal health are interlinked closely and a collaborative approach between the government and EMRI Green Health Services is enabling in achieving optimal health outcomes.
The Mobile Veterinary Services project will provide timely treatment on receipt of call at 1962 at the door step of the livestock owner and helps in maintaining health of animal, increasing the productivity animal, thereby improving the rural economy. The project was initially launched in Tamil Nadu in 2016 and later expanded to Telangana and Gujarat.
Process flow:
When a distress call from the livestock owner is received at any time of the day at the 1962 Emergency Response Centre, basic details are collected and information disseminated to the nearest Mobile Veterinary Clinic/Ambulance to the Caller is done. The Veterinary Doctor in the call centre ascertains the type of emergency and either provides Online Medical Direction (OLMD) or dispatches the ambulance. The ambulance along with the Veterinary Doctor reach the door step of the livestock owner, assess the condition of the sick cattle and provides on-site treatment. In Tamil Nadu, in case the animal needs tertiary care, the decision to transfer the animal to the Veterinary clinic is made.
